The Darkness & the Light of Napoli

It’s day three here for me in Naples and the descriptive words are only beginning to come in fragments now. Naples has me choked up. I am at once disgusted at the filth, shocked at the poverty and in love with the vibrancy and the monumental beauty. There are dichotomies all around me. There are the narrow alleys where the roar of motorini and blaring horns make my ears ring and the quiet open squares, the train station poverty that makes you hold your bag close and the cruise ship wealth, the inner city squalor of decaying apartments stacked high and the antique jewels of churches and monuments of another time when this was the city of kings. This city makes my heart pound. The intensity and passion is very Italian, Ma certo!
