Pilgrimage

This time last year I started walking. It was a walk of healing following a profound experience.

The most northern point of my walk was a beach called Te Arai Point in New Zealand. On that beach I picked up a scallop shell which is the symbol of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route from France across northern Spain.

Today I took my scallop shell and put it in St Peters basilica in Rome.

It’s been a year long journey both within and physically and is by no means complete, but looking out over Rome this bright sunny morning gave me a sense of satisfaction.

I still need to work on being brave and strong and honouring myself. I make progress one step at a time, like the pilgrim.

  1. Andrea, what a beautiful symbolic gesture. You ARE very brave and strong! Take it from me, one who has also been blessed in Italy. (By the way, the Cammino actually starts in Italy, at least that’s what the Italians say!) Step out in confidence, my friend..You are already doing it under a strong mantle of guidance & protection.
